Be Limitless in 2016

There is a movie called Limitless about a struggling author (Bradley Cooper) who finds a pill called NZT-48 that enhances his cognitive functions. He uses the pill, becomes super efficient and laser focused. He finishes his book, cleans his apartment, earns money on the stock market, and gets in great shape. Once other people find out about his use of the pill and the abilities that result from congestion it becomes a fight for his life as he tries to retain possession of the pills.

It seems that without this pill he could never be limitless or at least tap into the best version of himself.

What if we could be limitless? What if we could do everything he did? Well, I believe that we can. Let's get into it. Are you ready to be limitless?!

We will go step by step through the same process he went through and you will see how easy it is to do.

He cleans his apartment.
You can clean your apartment, house, Winnebago, van down by the river, whatever place you call home. There is a direct correlation with cleaning your house to clearing out the clutter in your head. Try it, clean a room in your house, see what it does for you. It will give you a sense of accomplishment, you will have a little energy boost, and you will breathe a sigh of relief.

He finishes his book.
Instead of taking a pill, take a shot of espresso or drink coffee, you will have some focus. Is there a project that you have been needing to complete? Maybe you want to write a book, start a blog, run a 5k, read a book. Do it, it may mean you get less sleep, or you turn off the TV, but you can do it, it's in you and you don't even know it. Just take a baby step. Newton's First law of Physics states that an object in rest tends to stay at rest unless acted upon by an external force. The same can be said of an object in motion. Are you at rest or in motion? If you are at rest, think of this blog as your external force. If you are in motion and you are kicking butt on your projects and goals, keep going! I have started writing a book, and I wrote 30 pages the other day in a matter of 1 hour. I had a sudden burst of inspiration, a cup of coffee and some time to myself because I got up way earlier than everyone else. Position yourself for success. Need more help? He gets in shape:
You know this is interesting because he didn't just change his physique by thinking about it, he still had to do the work. We see a scene of him running so we know that he started doing that. Most people decide that they want to get in shape and they instantly change everything in their lives and think that it will work. The trick is to make small changes (baby steps) to get in great shape. Yes, eating healthy is one way, the other is exercising. A lot of people will get all of the things associated with getting in shape like a fit bit, or the insanity workout and expect to magically get in shape. Yes, some people can do it by sheer willpower. The majority of us are not wired like that. We are special, we need to do one thing at a time. If you want to start getting in shape, here is something you can do. It is how I got in the best shape of my life at age 31. (See transformationn pics below) There are 3 things that I did right away.

1) I walked for at least 10 minutes every other day for 2 weeks. I plugged my headphones in and went for a walk. No pressure, no outside influences. Just me and the outdoors. Too cold outside? Get on the treadmill, go to a mall, or just quit being a mamby pamby.

2) I ate at least one salad a day, for lunch or dinner. You can make it grilled chicken salad or taco salad, cobb salad, whatever. Just eat one salad. Don't get a salad from a restaurant, it needs to be homemade, and don't use a gallon of ranch dressing.

3) I drank only water, and some coffee in the morning. Seriously, if you can quit drinking pop or sugary drinks, you will most likely lose 5 lbs., in a short period of time.

Once you have done that for two weeks, then start running a little bit, and start incorporating three rounds of pushups, pull-ups (or dips), and sit-ups. A good start is 5 of each 3 times, with as little rest as possible. Also, start changing the foods you eat a little more. Make sure you eat a big breakfast. A sample breakfast for me is 4 eggs, 2 slices of turkey bacon, chopped potatoes (homemade hash browns), and a glass of water, cup of coffee.

He gets a makeover:
Nothing like a haircut and a suit to make you feel better right. Well, not sure about the suit but a haircut is always refreshing. You definitely don't need a pill to do any of that. Depending on the suit you might need some extra cash.

He pursues new opportunities:
It's always the stock market? Why? I guess its because if you need cash fast its a good route. He still had to study and analyze its workings. I don't think that the stock market is the way to go, maybe it's because I don't know enough about it, but I have never met anyone who was doing really well with it. My suggestion is to pay off your debts, and in the process begin pursuing new opportunities that have always intrigued you. Study them, analyze them, read books, and articles. Listen to podcasts and radio shows. Immerse yourself. Then when all of your debts are paid off you can begin investing in your new niche. The time it takes to pay your debts off is the time that you can hone your craft.

He makes new friends and starts networking:
This one is huge. It's good to have friends and to start networking. There are billions of people out there who are uniquely talented at something. There are also thousands who have been or are where you want to be. If you don't know them, email them or introduce yourself to them. Ask them if they have some free time to meet with you and then get to know them. I had a friend recommend this to me, it works and is a great way to get to know people. You never know what may come of a meeting.

He goes on vacation to an exotic place:
Vacation, what a beautiful word. What do you think of when you hear it? I think of a cabin on a lake where I can kayak, swim and mountain bike with my family, or maybe a beach with all of those same things. Most people probably think of sitting on the beach, relaxing. So here's the thing. We don't need to take vacation to exotic places. However, we do need to take a vacation, without our phones, and without the guilt of not being in the office. If you are going to take vacation. Leave work behind. Honestly, a great vacation is sometimes just an extended weekend with a cool event going on, like a day hike, or a road trip. We need to take vacation more often.

He takes risks:
Who doesn't want to drive a really fast sports car, or learn a new language? Although, most of us can't learn a language in 3 days, we can learn a language very quickly if we immerse ourselves. Also, you don't have to have a complete understanding of a language to communicate with someone. Want to learn a new language. Try Duolingo.

1) Duolingo - it's FREE, forever. ( I am currently learning Russian)

As for driving the sports car, I have found out that Hertz will rent a Lamborghini, Ferrari or Bentley for $1500 /day with a free 75 miles, After that it is $3 /mile. An Aston martin costs about $1000/day with the $3 charge over 75 miles. I actually find that affordable. Who doesn't want to drive a James Bond car?

He makes amends with broken relationships:
There is a falling out with his girlfriend earlier in the movie. SHe dumps him because he is a mess. After getting his life together with the help of NZT, he then mends the relationship with his girlfriend. We don't need a pill or a reason to mend broken relationships other than that if we don't' then we are only hurting ourselves. Is there a relationship that you need to mend?

There really is no need for a pill. All of the things that he did in the movie are attainable, especially if we pick them off one by one. If we make baby steps, we can do it, no problem. Choose to be limitless this year. Start small and finish big.

Be limitless,
I'm off to go Kayaking. Stephen
