Epic Workout Music Playlist

I am always in search of good music when working out, in fact, recently, I have been using PandoraThumbprint Radio, which is pretty much the coolest thing ever.

Pandora Radio is based on the Music Genome Project.

"The Music Genome Project is an effort to "capture the essence of music at the most fundamental level" using over 450 attributes to describe songs and a complex mathematical algorithm to organize them." -Wikipedia

Basically, it is music that reads your mood and your mind. So, when it comes to music, I let Pandora do all the thinking for me, I have too many other things to think about, like planning an Adventure race with my brother.

I also, realize that most men who exercise are constantly scrolling through their I-phones, or MP3 playlist instead of paying attention to their workout.

Two things:

  1. If you are going to play on the phone during a workout, go to the park
  2. Keep Reading

Creating a Workout Playlist

There are a couple of things that need to be established when creating an epic workout playlist

  1. It needs to be perfect for the workout at hand

    • If you are lifting weights, it needs to be something upbeat and heavier

    • If you are running, songs about running are good, and so are songs that have a cadence, like Jackson Browne's 1977 hit, "Running on Empty"

    • If you are walking swimming or doing yoga, you might want to consider something soft and trancelike.

  2. It must be repeatable and have bench depth
    • You don't want to be shuffling every 5 seconds to try and get the perfect song. I saw a guy do that in the pool, and I thought he was going to drown. He surfaced like a whale and flopped on his side for a while. I'm assuming he found the perfect song.

    • Bench depth = more than 15 songs. I would suggest at least 5 hours worth of songs to auto-shuffle through

When I first began to come up with a playlist, I really didn't know,   where to start. You might find yourself in that same position. If you   already have a playlist, then just scroll down and you can see the 30   songs I list to add to your collection.

   Figuring out what you like

When starting out, it is important for you to figure out what you   like. There are two ways for you to do this.

  1. Do an Amazon.com search
    • If you search for a title, then click on one of the choices. You can sample the songs, and if you scroll down until you see: "Customers who bought this item also bought"You can scan to see dozens of other albums. Repeat until complete.

  1. Get Pandora Radio

    • Type in an artist you like and create a station. Do this a couple times, Start rating songs, and you will broaden your thumbprint.

I want you to know that I am an no way affiliated with Pandora Radio. I use it, I love it, and that is why I reccommend it.

Ok, I did promise to have 30 songs available to kickstart you on your Epic Playlist. If you don't know where to start, or if you just wanted something to add to your reportoire, I hope you enjoy.
