7 simple, effective and easy to adopt habits that RICH people have

Building wealth is a marathon, not a sprint. Discipline is the key ingredient.
— Dave Ramsey

What does it mean to be rich? According to Andy Stanley in his book: How to Be Rich: It's Not What You Have. It's What You Do with What You Have”, people who live in the United States, are considerably richer than 70% of the population.

The definition of Rich is: having a great deal of money or assets; wealthy.

By this definition …are you rich?

If not…do you want to know what it takes to be rich?

Cue in the theme song to Celebrity Apprentice: Money, money, money…money!!

Seriously though. A little wisdom on the subject of money can take us a long way. For years I lacked this wisdom. My wife and I slowly put ourselves in debt over the course of 5 years.

That was our goal of course. When we got married, we vowed to each other that in 5 years we wanted to be in $55K worth of debt. By golly, we did it!!

You know what the crazy thing was…we didn’t even have to work very hard at it, in fact, I don’t think we really tried. All we had to do was purchase things when we wanted them, use our credit cards, only make minimum payments, and basically not know where our money was going.

Ahhh, the good ol’ days, when there wasn’t a care in the world.

The Reality: We could have been multi-millionaires by now.

One of the 100 goals (MY LIFE GOALS) I have before I turn 42, is to be a millionaire. I know your laughing, or thinking it’s not possible. I assure you, it is. Many people who have gone before me have done it, and there will be many more after, hopefully you.

Money is evil. FALSE. The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. (1 Timothy 6:10).

“He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves abundance with its income. This too is vanity.” – Ecclesiastes 5:10

Your attitude towards money, and what you are using it for might be the problem.

Do you get mad at people who are wealthy? Or Jealous?

DON’T. You have no idea how or why they have money. Some people who you think have money, who have nice things. They might not actually have anything, this is called false rich. In other words, outgo exceeds income.

Then there are people who look like a regular middle class average Joe, and they are millionaires.

These are the people that you want to learn from. They are wise.

Some who are poor pretend to be rich; others who are rich pretend to be poor.” – Proverbs 13:7

Adopt their Habits, and routines.

What are their habits and routines? I am so glad that you asked. I have laid out 7 Habits of the truly wealthy people. (Anyone with a net-worth of one million or more.)

None of these are new. We all know that these are the things we need to do. The real problem that people have is self-control and discipline. These are 2 characteristics that have an undertone of ownership. When was the last time you heard a sermon preached on self-control, or discipline?

Most of the sermons or advice people give is to do this or do that, or to pray and ask God to help you, insinuating that you actually have to do nothing, and God will do everything.

This is the biggest load of crap I have ever heard. God helped you already, he has given you everything that you need. It’s up to you to tap into that power.

Just to give you a few examples:

“For God did not give you a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline” – 2 Timothy 1:7

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law” – Galatians 5:22-23

See, you already have it. You just have to walk confidently into it.

Most importantly, though. You need to develop RICH habits that promote self-control. You have to build this foundation and create the infrastructure to maintain it.

Don’t build a false character, without a firm foundation. Get the foundation first. Then build the frame. Then the outer part will be built last.

Outer appearance matters very little, yet somehow it has been hyped up as being all there is. This is in essence, putting the cart before the proverbial horse.

Examples of how people do this:

1)      Get protein, supplements, all the healthy food, new shoes, a gym membership without developing a solid habit of working out.

2)      Buy the new car or get the new house without actually getting the raise or the job

3)      Pay a whole bunch of money on an idea or product without testing it out or building a relationship of trust with their customers

4)      Buy the things that millionaires can afford without being a millionaire, resulting in loads of debt or bankruptcy.

Now that we know what most people do? Let’s take a look at the 7 Habits of RICH people. These habits are not going to guarantee that you will be a millionaire, but you will be RICH.

You will enjoy your life, be healthy, and be confident in knowing you are actively living the life that you want.

1)      RICH people Read:

They read tech manuals, books about finance, leadership, teamwork, marketing and the internet. It’s all about how to grow a business, connect with others and build businesses.

RICH people act on what they read. They are intelligent and use the resources they have and read to establish an idea, then they execute like a BOSS!

Need some books to read?

I have read all of these and recommend them (affilliates)

2)      RICH people get up early:

They put in work, way before everyone else is up in the morning. Imagine getting up at 4 am, and executing on all of the action items that you had planned out the night before.

The average person gets up around 8am that means that they have been up for 4 whole hours before anyone else. Do you know what 4 hours of uninterrupted time is worth? About 8 hours.

“Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise” – Ben Franklin

3) RICH people Exercise:

Author of "RICH HABITS" Thomas C. Corley, spent 5 years studying the habits of "rich people" (over 3.2 million net liquid net worth). One of the things he noticed that over 70% of them did was consistently exercise for at least 30 minutes a day.

Every millionaire I know has this same consistent behavior. They all place a high priority on keeping their bodies healthy,

4) RICH people pursue their own goals:

If you don't pursue your own goals, then you will pursuing them for someone else. You will also most likely fall into the comparison trap.

That is, you will see other people having the success or progress that you desire, and become frustrated because you are not in the same position.

Remember that you have different gifts, talents and abilities, that are unique to you. If you are a fish then you should do fish things, not monkey things.

In his #1 bestselling book, "48 days to the work you love", Dan miller says :" What is your overall mission in life? Do you have one? Spending the time to figure one out really helps put everything else in context."

5) RICH people take action daily:

Once they have made their goals, they take little steps everyday to achieve their smaller goals. According to Corley, 81% make to-do-lists, and 67% of them complete 70% of their actions.

As you can imagine, attaining wealth (1 million or more) is a huge undertaking, and requires discipline, self-control, and focus, so having an action list is imperative.

Wealthy people start their day knowing the night before what they need and want to accomplish.

Need an Action Plan?

6) RICH people have multiple income streams:

My favorite passage in the Bible is Ecclesiastes 11:1-6, this really came to life for me 2 years ago at about two in the morning, after I had got home from work.

Ship your grain across the sea;
after many days you may receive a return.
Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight;
you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.

If clouds are full of water,
they pour rain on the earth.
Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north,
in the place where it falls, there it will lie.
Whoever watches the wind will not plant;
whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.

As you do not know the path of the wind,
or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb,
so you cannot understand the work of God,
    the Maker of all things.

Sow your seed in the morning,
and at evening let your hands not be idle,
for you do not know which will succeed,
    whether this or that,
or whether both will do equally well.

You have likely heard the saying, "Don't put all your eggs in one basket." In the same way, don't put all your money in one investment or retirement savings plan. Spread it out, invest in many areas. stocks, mutual funds, 401k, savings and especially in yourself.

7) RICH people don't have debt:

The absolute fastest way to get rich is to have no debt. Live on less than you have, and save as much as you can. Those are the two most effective things to remember.

If you are having trouble doing that, then you need to look at increasing your income. In which case you should begin at #1 of this list and start over.

In his book, "The millionaire next door", tells us that "Contrary to popular belief, frugality is the foundation of wealth. Mundane consumption habits that are void of luxury-car purchases and fabulous yachting sprees may not impress the neighbors or the media, but then, impressing the public isn't the goal of most first-generation millionaires. Financial independence is.

My debt used to keep me awake at night, I owed over $55K, it was stressing me out, and the bills kept coming. All I wanted to do was get out from underneath that burden.

It took my wife and I 2.5 years, and we had two children in the process. It can be done, it takes self-control & discipline. Implement these 7 habits and you will be on your way to being a millionaire. Even if you implement a few of them you will at least feel better and be motivated to earn.
