Weekly Workout for men: The Iron Triathlon

Weekly Workout for men: The Iron Triathlon

A few years ago I was training for triathlons. I used to search online for all sorts of information on how to get better or what equipment was needed, or what a potential time to complete a triathlon was.

I was really into it. I was riding my bike 30-40 miles on Saturday’s and other days throughout the week, then I would run 20 miles and swim 1 mile, almost every other day.

Yes, I was an endurance machine, and it felt good to be able to run 30 miles no problem.

To be honest, it has been bothering me for quite a while. I though that I had a tear in my labrum or rotator cuff, even though I had full range of motion and could do heavy lifts.

So, I reluctantly went to the doctor after a workout that I had to stop in the middle of because something didn’t feel right. When I say doctor I mean Orthopedic Surgeon. He performed several tests on me and his diagnosis was all but helpful.

I first learned of Power Cleans, Hang Cleans and CrossFit when I had stumbled across a video of Annie Thorisdottir performing a workout called DT.

“DT” is by definition:

Weekly Workout for Men: 5 Ways to get a bigger, more muscular chest

When I first started working out, I had no muscle definition, some serious back fat, and the love handles that were slowly turning into a spare tire…you know just in case I got a flat on the expressway.

In fact, if we could pay someone to do it, we would do it.

Lots of people want to get in great shape, and become physically fit. So they pay someone else to try and do it for them. Personal trainers know how to get you into shape, but you still have to do the work.

One year ago I started CrossFit, competed in the CrossFit open and learned how to do muscle-ups, Olympic lifts and double-unders among other things.

I still struggle with certain movements but have gained 13 pounds of muscle, gotten stronger, more agile and feel a better sense of overall health and wellness.

Weekly Workout for Men: A grueling test of physical and mental endurance, plus some gymnastics

A thruster uses the entire body to move a barbell from the bottom of a squat to shooting it overhead, it is impossible to do without using your legs, hence "Thrust".

Why am I telling you all of this, and why should you care?

Well, it is quite possibly one of the best workouts to do. You simply finish it, when you finish it. However, when the body pushes at 90-95% of it's total capacity, something crazy happens. You start to produce HGH or Human Growth Hormone, when this occurs you start burning fat and building muscle, and that is why this workout and almost all Cross Fit workouts are better for you than anything you can do at the run of the mill gym.
