The 53 books every man must read before they turn 40

The 53 books every man must read before they turn 40

I love to read… there is no doubt about that, and in doing so, I start telling others about books that I have read. I don’t like to hoard knowledge, and if I think something is worth passing on, I do it.

On this website there are several places that you can find links to great books that I recommend, but I felt like there needed to be a list that was more definitive especially for the type of men that read this blog and listen to the podcast.

Men of substance, wisdom and maturity, need to read things that are going to give them more of that, and allow them to continue having a mind of their own and even challenge their own lines of thought.

In fact, the type of men that the 360 Man Project are attracting are highly driven men that want to grow in knowledge and be able to apply it at some point in life.

What Hannibal can teach us about taking command of our life and mastering our own fears

Hannibal was 26 years old when he was made commander-in-chief of the army of Carthage. He immediately went to work by expanding Carthage across the Tagus river. On his way back to Carthage, he was met abruptly by an attacking coalition of Spanish tribes. This is where we first see Hannibal’s genius strategy at work.

How to think offense all the time, wake up early, and prioritize your goals and decisions

I haven’t written in a while. No excuses.

The truth is, I didn’t really have much to write about, and I don’t want to waste anyone’s time talking about useless stuff.

Lately, though I have had a few things on my mind.

3 things actually:

  • How to think offense all the time

Fix Your Character Before You Fix Your Hair: What Every Man Needs To Get Right

Fix Your Character Before You Fix Your Hair: What Every Man Needs To Get Right

You see it all the time. Dudes looking in mirrors and worrying about their hairstyles, or what shoes they are going to wear.

Who cares about all of that stuff, especially if you don't have character, grit, or resilience?

The stuff that really makes a man.

Our culture has it backwards. These articles that I see online of "the 10 best men's hairstyles" and "the best shoes for your first date".....Who gives a rats ass?

What's the foundation and infrastructure of your life like?

Short Term Thinking vs Long term Goals: The effects of Instant Gratification and how it harms us as men

Short Term Thinking vs Long term Goals: The effects of Instant Gratification and how it harms us as men

The point I want to hit on though is that we live in an extremely consumerist and entitled culture. We want things right now, and we want them the way we want them, no exceptions.

We believe that everything should be handed to us, in our laps, with a pretty red ribbon tied around it, and with all our wishes coming true.

15 Books that Every Man “Should” Read in his Lifetime: About Men, For Men, and Written by Men

There are a lot of bloggers, people, and websites that tell you that you "should" read certain books if you are a man, and they focus on things like how to dress, or how to behave.

Most of them tell you that you should read “The Great Gatsby”, or “The Catcher in the Rye.”

Those books are decent, but boring, at least in my opinion. I believe that a man needs to read books that he’s actually interested in. He shouldn’t read a book because he thinks he has to, or because everyone else is.

Lessons on people pleasing from Machiavelli and Robert Glover: From Nice Guy to the Assertive Man

Are you a "Nice Guy?"

We all have the makings of “Nice Guys”, and our culture loves for us to be those guys, but the people around us suffer for it, our society suffers. What we need are assertive men, that get in front of problems, confront stuff that is wrong, say what they mean, and learn how to have their needs met and fulfilled without means of manipulation, secrecy or deception.

The lost virtues of a man part 2: How to navigate through this modern culture with integrity, strength, confidence and character

The lost virtues of a man part 2: How to navigate through this modern culture with integrity, strength, confidence and character

Today I don't believe that most men know how to change the tire on their car or how to fix their own lawnmower, or how to fight. The thought of a fight send our culture into a frenzy.

It is a lack of not wanting to learn, and our culture being to convenient. Hard things create hard men. Easy things create lazy, soft men.

Something is deeply wrong.
