For those of you who are not familiar with what a Star course is, it is by definition the culminating rucking exercise of Special Forces Selection. You show up with your ruck and you get a list of waypoints. You plot your route, then you start rucking: point to point, mile after mile.

Most Special forces candidates don’t make selection. Not because they aren’t tough or didn’t quit, but because it is just a highly challenging, rigorous endeavor. Anyone who even attempts Selction is a badass in my mind. They are following their dreams and at least take a shot at them. 99% of the population wouldn’t even try.

My car recently broke down on the side of the road.

I tried to call a couple people to come and get me, but it’s pretty typical that when you really need someone they aren’t available.

It’s Murphy’s law.

Instead of waiting it out, or going through my phone contacts, I popped open the trunk, grabbed my boots and my rucksack, and walked home.

It was only about 2.5 miles, but it was a great time to get a workout in, and also think about my life, as I often do. Us introverts love to think, internalize and self-reflect. It’s what we do best.

Most people want a quick fix.

They want a fabricated version of themselves.

Not only that, but they want, processed food, microwaveable snack dinners, Keurig coffee, on demand streaming movies, fast-lane checkouts, grocery pick-up in a car.

We like things how we want them, when we want them, and in the best quality possible. We are a highly consumerist culture, and we are driven by our "We want it now, mentality." It's really kind of sad.

We no longer know the term patience, or wait, we just don't have time in our lives for it.
